Building Basics

Hey, folks! Today we’re going to quickly tackle our buildings, the first few of which are currently on sale. Let’s start where you would. Your building just came in the mail, and you see some weird stuff! Well, just like with casting’s flash and bubbles, 3D printing has it’s own weird little quirks. There are the print lines themselves, ‘loops’ and detached filament (common to overhangs and cantilevers) and stringing. Let’s look at one old print here:

Those little loops in the windows we’re basically going to push in with a point file/pliars/a stick. They’ll pop right off with a good push! Those small threads are called stringing — there won’t be much of it, but it happens now and then. If you SUPER quickly pass a lighter (no lingering, now) or heat gun by those, they’ll evaporate. Poof, gone! Next up, for our buildings, we sprayed them with Rustoleum oxide red primer, then a layer of textured spray, one more of primer, and then got to painting. If lingering print lines are still bugging you before you texture spray, water down some Perfect Plastic Putty, brush it onto those spots, and run a file vertically up and down the building a bit.
